Fishing Competition

The 2016 Classic will be held on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th November 2016. All details will be updated on the webpage in early June 2016 so watch this space!!

This is what we did in 2015 but there will be a few changes (for the better) in 2016 -

The Lions Clubs of Gympie and Mary Valley have joined forces again to stage the family fishing Classic at Borumba Dam in November 2015. They are also pleased to again welcome the support form the Lake Borumba Fish Restocking Association Inc for this year's event.

The objective of the project is to increase overall community awareness that the Mary Valley Region of the south east is a place of wonderful natural beauty with a resiliant community spirit that is definitely worth a visit to "stay and play".

Any profits from this years event will go back to providing community amenities or support for worthy causes in the region.

Entry Fees: Adults (15 and over) $25, Juniors $10. There is a cap on Family entries of $60/ family (2 Adults and 2 of more Juniors). On Saturday night a delicious two course meal for $10 will be an optional "extra" this year.

Food:  There is no need to bring your own as food will be available at the Lions Camp in the Borumba Dam Camping Grounds. BBQ Friday 6th November & a two course meal for $10/head on Sat 7th November. Breakfast & Lunches Sat & Sun, with cold drinks also on sale. Food will include steak and chicken burgers, chips bacon and egg rolls etc.


Bar: There will be no bar operating at this years event so make sure you bring your own alcohol (BYO).

Entertainment: There will be a live entertainer from 06:30pm to 09:30pm on Saturday night at the Lions Camp in the Borumba Dam campgrounds. Bring a chair and settle in for a good evening with local country artist, Graeme Jensen.

Where can I apply for a FISHING permit?

All competitors 18 and over will require a "stocked impoundment" fishing permit in order to participate.

A permit may be obtained from the Camp Ground Managers at Borumba Dam, most fishing tackle outlets but due to limited supply or trading hours it is recommended that entrants obtain one "online" beforehand.

Permits are available online from the Queensland Government Gateway at www.smartservice.qld.gov.au or by calling 13 74 68 Payment can be made with a credit card. Permits purchased by telephone need at least five working days to be issued. A permit is issued to an individual but also covers the persons spouse (married or de facto) if the spouse is nominated on the permit. Persons 18 and over require a permit to fish. Not required for redclaw. Note: You must carry your permit with you whilst you are fishing or in possession of fish.

Competition Times: 

Saturday 7th November - Briefing 05:45am Competition Starts 06:00am. Weigh in cutoff time 04:00pm sharp.

Sunday 8th November - Briefing Starts 05:45am Competition Starts 06:00am. Weigh in cutoff time 11:00am sharp.

Prizes and major draws Borumba Campsite at 12:00pm Sunday.

Competitors wristbands available from the Lions Camp from 5:00pm Friday 6th November.

The Committee acknowledges the members of the Lake Borumba Fish Stocking Association Inc for again providing the services of "weighmasters"at the 2015 Classic. Make sure you nominate Borumba Dam as your preferred impoundment when applying for your permit as funds will be returned to the Association for restocking purposes.

Prizes: The Clubs acknowledge the generous contribution of our major sponsors. There will also be assorted prizes for Juniors  for each species and the Redclaw competition.

There will be a "mystery length" competition on a species as determined by the Committee an announced at the competition.

Juniors under 15 are eligible to fish and/ or enter the redclaw competition on payment of one entry fee that cover both competitions.

Target Species: These include Bass, Golden Perch, Catfish, Saratoga, Silver Perch and Redclaw for Juniors.

To ensure Regulatory compliance, the Bag (in possession) limits and minimum sizes are shown for each species below:

Bass 2 in possession and min size 30cm

Catfish 5 in possession and min size 35cm

Golden Perch 10 in possession and min size 30cm

Silver Perch 5 in possession and min size 30cm

Saratoga 1 in possession and min size 50cm

Redclaw - no size or possession limits apply in Lake Borumba

Please note that competitors only need to submit one fish to the competition and the numbers "in possession" shown above are to ensure that Regulatory requirements are met by competitors.
